SEASON OPENER CHECKERS GOTO VANDENBERG, GARRETT, GRIFFITHS AND LYNCH AT MOUNTAIN-DEW BLOOMFIELD SPEEDWAYBy: Tony Paris    (April 27th,2013)The Mountain-Dew Bloomfield Speedway finally got its season opener in on Saturday with race fans treated to trailer rides around the track and pit area. Also the Kindergarten Day Special-Fire with Trucks on display and a chance to see the 53D of Ron Downing Jr. SpongeBob car on display and the 95 machine of Tim Bevins with the Lightning McQueen look alike car also on display. The action was exciting in all four classes with each feature decided by less than a few car lengths.  A nice field sixty-three cars in the pit area in the always exciting four classes.

The first feature was the Mike’s Tire and Alignment Sport mods in action with twelve cars with Brandon Dale and Jason Mc Daniel bring the field to the green for eighteen laps. Mc Daniel would take the lead before Brett Lowery of Montezuma would go side-by-side for several laps with Mc Daniel. The two would start to distance the field but Carter Vandenberg  race his 7 machine from sixth to third and would be a three car breakaway with Lowery, Mc Daniel and Vandenberg all wanting the win. They would work lap traffic and Lowery and Vandenberg would battle for the lead. While working lap traffic on the white flag lap Vandenberg was leading and Lowery was trying to pass Mike Shelton in turn three and Lowery’s machine would spin to the bottom of turn three. The checkers would fly for Vandenberg followed by McDaniel in the runner-up spot and Ryan Fullenkamp in third and Dale in fourth. Lowery would end his night in eight.

In the Kollision Korner sport compacts sixteen cars taking the green for fourteen laps and this feature would go green to checkered with a battle between Kassidy Kirkpatrick, Jim Garrett and Jared Hinkley with Kirkpatrick pacing the field for the first eight laps before Garrett would take the lead in lap traffic and Hinkley would follow in to the second spot. Kirkpatrick would slip back to third and father Kevin Kirkpatrick taking the fourth spot. When the checkers flew Jim Garret drove his green and white #26 to victory lane. A great job to all the drivers in this division doing a great job of driving and having no cautions.

The third feature was the Taylor Automotive Stock cars and  just like last year they always put on a great show in the full fender action. Local driver Jim Lynch of Bloomfield would make his return to the stock car division payoff. Lynch would hold off several challenges from veteran Jerry Pilcher and Nathan Wood. The caution flag would fly three times in the late stages but Lynch was able to hold off Wood who took second and Pilcher in third and Bob Lynch would take a fourth place finish. Lynch said in victory lane he’s shaking the car down for son Dalton Lynch who will run in the future.

Our final feature was the Kirkland Auto Hobby Stocks in action with Doug Gordon Jr. and Danny Thrasher brining the field to the green for sixteen laps. Gordon Jr. night would end with right front suspension damage ending his night. Thrasher would lead the field till lap six before Jason See would take the top spot from Thrasher. See would try to hold off the 10G of Dustin Griffiths but Griffiths would make the pass with six laps remaining and take the win. The runner-up spot went to See his best career finish in just four outings for the rookie. The third spot went to Tim Dawson who raced his way from the rear after trouble on the first lap sent him to the back. Dawson would finish in the third spot with fourth going to Thrasher.

Next week Saturday May 4th with hot laps at 6:00PM and racing action to follow with four classes in action. It will be Nurses Week with nurses getting into the Mountain-Dew-Bloomfield Speedway free with proper identification. For more information check out www.racedirtbloomfield.com
